We had a great time in Sunday School and Church this morning as we hosted Missionary appointees to the Amazon, Jon and Nisha Harris. His Sunday School lesson from Jonah was a specific challenge for us to be witnesses for Christ and the morning service he spoke on presenting Christ to the world.
After the AM service, I learned more about what they had eaten down there. The “best delicacy” John was served was bee larvae. I guess the buzz is that the whole place was humming after the event! (Sorry, but this is my blog!)
Those who were in the service remember that John referred to eating bread made from a tree root. Later I asked them what it tasted like and they said it tasted like saltine crackers (without the salt)… utterly tasteless. Jon told me later that he gave one of the tribesmen a granola bar, as he thought the man would the love the taste compared to the flat tasting bread. He said the man quickly ate it and when Jon asked him how he liked it the man said something like “It’s no different than what we eat.” Ummm… let’s see …. no taste compared to a tasty granola bar….
The whole episode reminds me of the way we are as people. We often measure things (not just food) merely through our own “tastes” and interpret life accordingly. How often do we run them through the “biblical grid?” Let’s form more of our perspectives and opinions through the lens of God’s Word. That’s one thing never changes. God said “My ways are not your ways, neither my thoughts your thoughts.” Let’s love His Word! “O taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who trusts in Him (Psalm 34:8)
